UFC light-heavyweight fighters Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida (16-0) and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua (18-4) have verbally agreed to a rematch on May 1 in Montreal, Canada according to Yahoo! Sports.
Both men faced one another last October in the main event of UFC 104, where, after five closely fought rounds, Machida walked away with a unanimous decision victory to keep his title, much to the dismay of many fans who scored the fight in Rua’s favor.
After the bout, UFC president Dana White talked about having a rematch as soon as he could schedule one, looking tentatively at UFC 108 in January. The date had to be postponed due to an injury to Machida’s hand that he required surgery for.
The event marks the return of the UFC to Canada since UFC 97 headlined by a middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Thales Leites that left fans, as well as the UFC president shaking their heads with disappointment.
